Outreach Clinical Services

This is an essential part of LIPs service which helps communities living in the remotest areas of Ladakh (some of which are cut off from the main town for up to six months during the winter season) to have access to a doctor and a medical check up as there are negligible healthcare facilities in these areas.

It should be noted that these outreach clinical services (health camps) are not designed to solely carry out health checkups however there are clear multi-lateral objectives with specific goals. Hence, these camps involve using well designed questionnaires aimed at developing individual health and socio-economic profile thereby building a database for future references. The database is utilized for:

  • Identifying prevalent diseases
  • Generate Hypothesis for probable cause, conduct planned study to test hypothesis
  • As well as inform the local authority both at village and district level, about the incidences, precaution, prevention and cure.

These health camps are complemented with health promotional activities (evening presentations) which are arranged with the co-operation of village committees. Some of the key topics include:

  1. Healthy Eating
  2. Tobacco Smoking Awareness
  3. Alcohol Awareness
  4. Occupational health
  5. High Altitude Related Health

Forthcoming Health Camps/Clinics

  • Neuro-cardio-vascular epidemiology in Ladakh and follow up action project will be carried out in 2008 at Nubra subdivision (a rural population) of Leh district.
